Crispy Pizza Fries Recipe: Loaded Seasoned Potato Bites

Pepperoni Pizza Fries piled with homemade pizza sauce, stretchy mozzarella and sharp cheddar. Perfect for dinner, game day or a crowd-pleasing party snack — they vanish fast. Use store-bought chips or homemade chips, and you can swap in shop-bought pizza sauce if you prefer. Everything cooks together on one tray for minimal fuss and washing up.

If you need a quick bribe to get the kids to help with the washing up, offer them pizza fries. I won’t lie — bribery works.

I made these for a recent “blogger buffet” — a chaotic family spread of everything I’d tested that day. Often the dishes don’t belong together, but these fries always steal the show.

Last time I served them they were demolished before I could get the other plates to the table — gone in five minutes.

📋 What do we need?

🔪 How to make Pizza Fries

Full recipe with detailed steps is in the recipe card below.

  1. Mix together the passata, tomato purée, oregano, thyme, garlic powder and onion powder. Drizzle this sauce over the cooked fries.
  2. Scatter half the grated cheddar and mozzarella over the sauce, then arrange sliced red pepper on top.
  3. Sprinkle the remaining cheese and a pinch of oregano, arrange the pepperoni slices, then return to the oven for about 8–10 minutes until the cheese is melted and the pepperoni is warmed through.

Pro Tip

  • Use grated mozzarella for that satisfying cheese pull, but mix it with a stronger cheddar to add flavour. The combo gives you both stretch and taste.

Finish with a sprinkle of chopped parsley before serving.

🍽️ More topping ideas for pizza fries

Think of your favourite pizza toppings — they’ll work here. A few ideas:

  • Hawaiian: shredded ham and pineapple
  • Roast chicken and mushrooms
  • Veggie: chopped peppers and sweetcorn

More adventurous options:

  • Peri-peri chicken
  • Crispy shredded duck with sriracha plum sauce
  • Spicy pulled beef brisket

Yes — love a good cheese pull 😍

Pizza Fries Recipe

By Nicky Corbishley
Pepperoni Pizza Fries loaded with homemade pizza sauce, stretchy mozzarella and sharp cheddar. Serve them for dinner, game day or a party — they disappear fast.
Prep Time:10
Cook Time:30
Total Time:40
Servings: 4
Course: Appetizer, Lunch
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 900 g (2 lbs) oven chips — use your favourite chips or fries, or crispy homemade chips
  • 120 ml (1/2 cup) passata (tomato purée for US)
  • 2 tbsp tomato purée (tomato paste for US)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 75 g (3/4 cup) grated cheddar
  • 100 g (1 cup) grated mozzarella
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 15 slices pepperoni
  • Small bunch fresh parsley, finely chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven and place the chips on a large oven tray in a single layer. Cook according to the pack or your homemade chip method until golden and crisp.
  • Meanwhile, mix the passata, tomato purée, oregano (reserve a pinch), thyme, garlic powder and onion powder in a bowl.
  • When the chips are cooked, pile them in the centre of the tray or transfer them to a smaller serving tray to create a mound — this helps hold the toppings.
  • Drizzle the sauce over the chips and scatter half the cheddar and half the mozzarella over the top.
  • Arrange the sliced red pepper, then sprinkle over the remaining cheddar and mozzarella.
  • Sprinkle on the reserved pinch of oregano and arrange the pepperoni slices over the cheese.
  • Return the tray to the oven for 8–10 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and the pepperoni is warmed through.
  • Remove from the oven, scatter with chopped parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

Can I make Pizza Fries ahead?

They’re best eaten straight away, so I don’t recommend making them in advance.

Best potatoes for homemade chips:

Floury varieties like Rooster, Russet, Maris Piper or King Edward give great results for homemade oven chips.

Best pepperoni:

Thinly sliced Italian pepperoni or salami, about 4–5cm diameter, works well. A spicier pepperoni adds kick, but use a milder variety if you prefer.

Make it simpler:

  • Use ready-made pizza sauce instead of making your own.
  • Use a ready grated cheese blend to save time.
