Honey Garlic Prawn Rice Bowl Recipe for Quick Weeknight Meals

Lately I’ve been relying on rice bowls for lunch and dinner—they’re quick, adaptable and satisfying. These honey garlic prawn rice bowls hit the sweet–savory balance perfectly. The prawns take minutes to cook and become glossy in the sauce, the rice heats in the microwave and the veg is simply chopped, so you can have dinner on the table in no time.

Have all your ingredients prepped before you start—the prawns are done in about 5 minutes.

I keep this bowl simple: microwave rice as the base and a selection of raw, chopped vegetables on top.

On busy evenings it feels like a delicious shortcut, and on slower nights you can easily switch up the toppings—add chilli, squeeze over lime, or change the veg. It’s quick, flexible and utterly satisfying.

Drizzle the honey garlic sauce from the pan over the bowl as a finishing dressing.

📋 Ingredients for Honey Garlic Prawn Rice Bowls

***Full recipe with detailed quantities in the recipe card below***

A wooden board topped with labelled ingredients for honey garlic prawn rice bowls: king prawns, rice, butter, oil, soy sauce, honey, garlic, cucumber, paprika, salt, pepper, coriander, onion, avocado and sesame seeds.

Abbreviated Recipe

***Full recipe with detailed steps in the recipe card below***

Heat microwave rice following pack instructions. Season prawns with salt, pepper and paprika. Sear in hot oil and a little butter for 1–2 minutes until they start to turn pink. Add garlic for a minute, then pour in soy sauce and honey and simmer briefly until glossy. Divide rice between bowls, top with prawns, cucumber, avocado and red onion. Spoon over the pan sauce and finish with sesame seeds and chopped coriander.

Recipe Tips

  • Try a flavored microwave rice—lime & coriander or roasted garlic varieties add an easy boost.
  • Prep all toppings before you cook the prawns; they cook very quickly so having everything ready makes the process smooth.

I love the contrast of hot, fluffy rice, sticky honey garlic prawns and cool, crunchy toppings—the sauce ties the bowl together.

Honey Garlic Prawn Rice Bowls Recipe

By Nicky Corbishley
Prep everything first—the prawns cook in about five minutes. I keep the bowl simple with microwave rice and raw chopped veg, and I always spoon the pan sauce over the top as the dressing.

Ingredients

Honey Garlic Prawns

  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon unsalted butter
  • 300 g (10.5oz) pack raw king prawns (defrosted and de-veined)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 2 cloves garlic peeled and minced
  • 3 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons honey

Rice Bowl

  • 500 g microwave basmati or long grain rice (2x 250g packs or 1.1 lb altogether)
  • ½ cucumber thinly sliced
  • 1 avocado de-stoned and chopped into chunks
  • ½ small red onion peeled and finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon mixed black and white sesame seeds
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander cilantro

Instructions

  • Heat the microwave rice according to the pack instructions. Keep it warm in the packs while you cook the prawns.
  • Heat the oil and butter in a frying pan over high heat until the butter bubbles.
  • Season the prawns with salt, pepper and paprika. Add to the pan and cook for 1–2 minutes, turning often, until they start to turn pink.
  • Reduce the heat to medium, add the garlic and stir for about a minute. Pour in the soy sauce and honey.
  • Cook for another minute to glaze the prawns, then remove from the heat.
  • Divide the rice between bowls. Top with the honey garlic prawns, cucumber, avocado and red onion.
  • Drizzle any remaining pan sauce over the prawns and rice.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped coriander, then serve.

Notes

This recipe serves 4 but can be scaled down to serve 2 by halving the ingredients.

Tip: Swap the plain microwave rice for a flavoured option such as lime & coriander or roasted garlic for extra zing.
