I couldn’t finish a Sweet Toasties series without including Nutella — that would be sacrilege! For the final day I went all out and built a towering, gooey stack of chocolatey goodness that’s perfect for a celebratory breakfast and will likely keep you satisfied until the afternoon.
Like the other recipes in this series — days one, two, three and four — this toastie takes under 10 minutes to prepare. A quick soak of bread in an egg-and-milk mix, a generous spread of Nutella, fresh strawberries and a dusting of icing sugar make for a decadent morning treat. Serve it up and watch the smiles appear: it’s the kind of breakfast that turns chores into coin-operated enthusiasm.
Strawberry Nutella French Toast (serves 1 hungry person)
Ingredients:
- 3 thick slices of white bread
- 1 large egg
- 3 tbsp milk (any kind)
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 tbsp Nutella
- 6–7 ripe strawberries, chopped
- 1 tsp icing sugar
Method:
- Prepare the bread by cutting each slice diagonally so you have 6 triangles. In a wide bowl, whisk together the egg and milk and set aside.
- Warm a large frying pan over medium heat and add the butter. When it has melted and starts to foam, swirl it around the pan. Dip each bread triangle in the egg mixture, coating both sides, then place them in the pan. Cook for about 2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- When the French toast triangles are cooked, remove them from the pan. Spread Nutella on three of the triangles, top with the chopped strawberries, then sandwich with the remaining triangles. Arrange the stacked toasties on a plate, dust with icing sugar and serve immediately.
This simple, indulgent recipe is perfect for a weekend treat or when you want to make someone’s morning extra special. The combination of warm, buttery toast, creamy Nutella and fresh strawberries is irresistible and quick to pull together.
